What is Women Build?

Women Build encourages women to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities. Women Build is not about excluding men; it’s about including women. Women Build celebrates the compassion, dedication, talents and abilities of women from all walks of life. Women need not wait for others to address substandard housing issues. They have the capability and determination to be part of the solution – one family at a time. Its goal is to showcase both the accomplishments of Habitat’s women volunteers and to invite more women to join the effort to provide decent, safe, affordable housing for local families in need.
Women themselves are also positively impacted by becoming homeowners. They are more likely to experience job growth and increased feelings of self-worth and statistics show that children of homeowners perform better in school and are more likely to continue until graduation. A Women Build results in women with real skills that allow them to maintain their own homes. All participants become leaders in the fight against poverty housing.

Habitat for Humanity Tri-Cities has an active and growing Women Build program. Many opportunities exist to become involved.

Is it a problem if I don’t have any construction skills?

Don’t worry! Many women come to Women Build sites with no construction skills at all and still make a great impact. Training will be provided.

What should I wear/bring to a build site?

Please wear comfortable clothes that will allow you to work and will protect you from the hazards of a construction zone. Please wear boots or rugged shoes. If you have safety glasses and gloves please bring them – if you don’t there will be some on site.  Drinking water is provided at the site but please bring your own water bottle or container.

How do I help support the cost of Women Build?

You can help by donating to Habitat for Humanity or getting a team together for the Walk Home 5K/1mi fun run and walk.

What happens on the construction site?

We prepare a slab foundation then work through the residential construction phases that generally include: framing, roofing, siding, windows & doors, insulation, drywall, painting, cabinets, trim and landscaping. We accomplish all with the support and training of coaches and crew leaders experienced in residential construction.
