Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers with a range of experience and talents to continue our work in the Tri-Cities.  Currently, our greatest needs are in the Habitat Store, at the construction site, and in the office. Read the descriptions below, then go to VolunteerUp to register.

The word VOLUNTEER is defined as offering oneself or one’s services for some undertaking or purpose. Habitat is able to achieve its mission of providing simple, decent, affordable houses to our partnering families because of the effort put forth by volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of our organization equipping us with the labor, resources, time and talent it takes to build homes…to build hope.

Construction

Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome! We promise that you’ll have a lot of fun, meet some great people, learn about construction and feel good about the time spent helping others.

Habitat for Humanity Tri-Cities needs construction volunteers on-site Monday-Saturday 8am-2pm year-round at our multiple building sites.  Please sign up to volunteer online through VolunteerUp.  If you represent a group wishing to volunteer, please call the office at 943-5555  and speak to our Volunteer Coordinator prior to signing up online.

You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer for general construction at our worksite. Anyone under 18 years of age CANNOT: Use power tools, use motor vehicles, perform demolition work, work on the roof, work from a height of six feet or more, or participate in excavation operations.

We welcome all ages for other volunteer efforts. Policy on  our Work Crew Safety.

The Habitat Store

Volunteering at the Habitat Store is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the mission of Habitat.  If you are physically unable to be out at the work site, or have gifting in areas that are not showcased on the construction site, come on in and volunteer at the Store.  You will be helping with warehouse sales by greeting and assisting customers, pricing items, stocking new items and cashiering.

Office Support

Office volunteers answer phones, translate for our Spanish-speaking families and assist staff with special projects. We’re looking for friendly folks who enjoy working with people – no office experience required!

Committees

Habitat for Humanity Tri-Cities carries out its work through operating committees appointed to perform various tasks of the organization. Committees include:  Family Selection, Women Build, and Walk Home.

Events

There are also short-term volunteer projects to help with special fundraising events throughout the year.
