About Us

“What the poor need is not charity but capital, not caseworkers but co-workers!”

(Millard Fuller, Founder Habitat for Humanity)

What We Do

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and poverty, by making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat welcomes all peopleregardless of race, religion, ethnicity or any other difference—to build and repair simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter.

How We Do It

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner families. Habitat houses are then sold to the partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat homes.

Who We Serve

Partner families are selected based on the following criteria:

    • A need for housing
    • The ability to repay a no-interest mortgage (based on income of 30%-60% of Tri-Cities median income level for their family size)
    • A willingness to partner through completing 500 hours of “sweat equity”

Since Habitat for Humanity Tri-Cities’ inception in 1994, we have now built 80 homes, and completed over 30 home preservation projects throughout the Tri-Cities. Our vision is that all residents of our Tri-County area have the opportunity for a decent, affordable place to live.
